The Alamo Area Resource Center joins with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in encouraging all people at very high risk for HIV, to consider PrEP. Meet with one of our doctors or other PrEP Navigator to learn whether PrEP is right for you. If it is, we can write and fill a prescription for it.
Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis or PrEP
Is PrEP right for you?
We can help you decide and, if so, help you get it. PrEP is a medication that can help prevent HIV infection. It involves taking a pill called Truvada which, if taken daily over a period of time, can prevent HIV from infecting healthy cells.
Post-Exposure Prophylaxis or PEP
PEP is medication that has been shown to prevent HIV infection after exposure, if you’re treated within 72 hours.
Whatever your gender identity or sexual orientation, this tool developed by the CDC can help you assess the risk of HIV transmission from various sexual activities.
If you’re interested, we encourage you to schedule a free PrEP consultation call us at 210-625-7216. You can also just drop by, though wait times will vary.
Most insurance plans cover PrEP — if yours doesn’t, we can help you qualify for financial assistance programs.
