2009
Jennifer Camp dates are as follows:
August 9,
2009 - August 12, 2009
Jennifer was a remarkable child faced
with a challenge no one should know--having AIDS. Remembering Jennifer
brings to mind a girl with a multi-faceted personality who compressed a
lot of living into her nearly eleven years of life.
Mature beyond her years, Jennifer had a no-holds-barred approach to life
with an irreverent sense of humor, voracious wit, and keen intelligence.
She was comfortable with children and adults alike and could eloquently
inform them all about living with AIDS. A doctor once told her, "Every
time I have a class, I tell everyone about you."
For all of her maturity and aplomb, Jennifer was still a little girl at
heart. She loved Barbies, singing in her church choir, and excelling at
school, where she was an honor student. Much beloved and admired by her
teachers and her fellow students, a tree was planted at her elementary
school in her honor.
Jennifer will always be remembered for her zest for life and her ability
to touch the hearts of everyone around her. Because of Jennifer's zeal
and knack for bringing her story to so many, the Alamo Area Resource
Center is honored to host this camp in honor of Jennifer and her legacy.
Jennifer's Camp provides a camp experience for youth living with
HIV/AIDS and their primary caregivers.
The camp, a project of the Alamo Area Resource Center, the largest AIDS
service organization in San Antonio, has been sponsored by the Elton
John AIDS Foundation, Levi Strauss Foundation, Children Affected By AIDS
Foundation, The Milagros Foundation, The David Robinson Foundation and
the Frees Foundation as well as local corporations and organizations.
